We have had considerable success providing manufacturers of large parts with hand-held gages to control specific dimensions. The gages obviously must be accurate and repeatable enough to provide useful inspection data. The hard part is to achieve this while making the gages light, simple and ergonomic while building in the mechanical robustness necessary for survival in tough, shop floor conditions. Our experience shows that operators who are handling large, heavy parts have difficulty changing their habits when they pick up a gage. Consequently, the gage needs to be rugged enough to be handled as would any other piece of their production equipment. We have a track record of supplying purpose-built hand-held gages, including custom-built battery operated electronics, that are survivable in this kind of environment. |
