Off-line gages can be very similar to near-process gages, but often require less durability and environmental hardening because they may be limited to use in gage lab environments and be subject to lower sample rates, hence fewer part cycles. They can be a great way to get the benefits of custom gaging without the expenses associated with more highly engineered systems. They can often easily justify themselves by improved R&Rs, increased throughputs and reducing operator skill requirements. They can sometimes be the result of adaptations to existing, off-the-shelf gages. |
