Near process gages allow some of the advantages of on-line gages, but require less integration and invasion into production processes. Inspection data is still available very quickly, with obvious advantages for production quality control. Costly and problem-prone transportation of parts to gage room can often be eliminated. Sampling rates can sometimes be increased without introducing part-flow bottlenecks. But with all the logistic advantages of near-process gages, the most common motivation for their use is for reduction of operator induced error. |
